COTES-DE-NUITS - GEVREY CHAMBERTIN
Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot is located in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin. Winemaking at the 20-hectare domaine is in the hands of Didier Chevillion, son-in-law of Bernard Dupont. Over the last decade, Didier has taken the venerable property to new heights of quality and international recognition. In October 2013 the family sold the Domaine to the Faiveley firm. The domaine has extensive holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin. Their largest single production is in Gevrey-Chambertin AOC, where they have 9 hectares spread over nine parcels. They also own 2 hectares of 45 year old vines in 1er Cru Cazetiers, one hectare in 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques and about one-half hectare each in Charmes Chambertin and Mazis Chambertin. Didier Chevillion aims for deeply concentrated Gevreys that show the distinctions of their individual terroirs of origin and above all the essence of Gevrey-Chambertin – namely licorice-tinged, supple black fruit with notes of spice and sweetness. The grapes are hand-picked and sorted in the vineyard and at the winery. They are totally de-stemmed and are given a cold maceration at 12 degrees centigrade for 5 to 8 days. Fermentation, begun with natural yeasts, lasts between 15 and 18 days, after which the wines are moved to oak casks, of which 100% are new for the Premier and Grand Crus. The wines are aged on their fine lees, so as to retain the maximum of fruit and freshness, for up to 18 months before bottling. |

Bourgogne Rouge |
The Bourgogne Rouge Pinot Noir comes from 35 year-old vines at the base of Gevrey village. It is harvested just before the Gevrey AOC vines, as it ripens early. The Bourgogne is given a shorter (12 day) vinification period to preserve the tasty and supple black fruit, with characteristic Gevrey spice. |
Marsannay |
The Pinot Noir grapes are hand-picked, sorted and destemmed. Then, they go through a prefermentation maceration of 8 days at low temperatures (50 to 54F) before being vinified. For the duration of the 20-23 days vatting period, the wine is kept at a temperature below 33°C (91F), with one punch down per day. Before devatting and pneumatic pressing, one pumping over of the must is performed. After 2 to 3 days of sedimentation, the wine is matured in French oak barrels for 14 to 16 months. The barrels, which come from high quality barrel makers such as François Frères, have been rigorously selected for their fine grain and “moyen plus” toast. They are 2 to 6 year old. This wine offers an intense red color and a bouquet of red fruits on the nose. On the palate, it expresses fruity notes, good tannins and a great length. Cellaring potential: 5 to 10 years. |
Gevrey-Chambertin |
The domaine’s largest single production is in Gevrey-Chambertin AOC, where they have 9 hectares spread over nine parcels. The vines average 35 year old for the two parcels that are selected for the Domaine’s village bottling. It is a generous, ample wine with mouthfilling, spicy, blackberry fruit. This is a great introduction to Didier Chevillion’s style. |
Gevrey-Chambertin - 1er Cru Les Cazetiers |
The domaine owns a 2 hectare block of 45 year old vines of Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers, where the soil ranges from white limestone-marl through sandy-limestone. Being slightly higher in elevation, the Cazetiers offers bright, black-cherry fruit underpinned by a fruity acidity. The finish is remarkably persistent with a touch of minerality giving a wonderful “lift” to the fruit. |
Gevrey-Chambertin - 1er Cru Petit-Chapelle |
Burghound: "the flavors display the classic elegance of a fine Petite Chapelle with an attractive freshness underpinned by firm but ripe tannins and a linear, driving and persistent finish. Good juice." |
Gevrey-Chambertin - 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques |
Dupont-Tisserandot’s one-hectare holding in 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques has 30 year old vines planted on clay-limestone soil with the presence of many fossils. This is the estate’s lushest Gevrey, with supple, generous black fruit that gives the impression of being sweet on the palate due to its perfect ripeness. |
Charmes-Chambertin - Grand Cru |
Dupont-Tisserandot owns about one-half hectare of Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, with vines that are 50 year old. The Charmes has a thin, limestone-clay topsoil over a sub-soil of pure rock. Yields naturally average a low 35 hl/ha, and are kept at this level through severe pruning and plowing between the rows in Winter and Spring. The Charmes is a massive wine with soft ripe tannins and layers of spicy, dark fruit. |
Mazis-Chambertin - Grand Cru |
Dupont-Tisserandot owns about one-half hectare of Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, with vines around 60 year old. The Mazis parcel, situated in the choice “Les Hauts Mazis” section, has yet thinner soil than the Charmes, over solid limestone rock. Yields naturally average a low 35 hl/ha, and are kept at this level through severe pruning and plowing between the rows in Winter and Spring. The Mazis offers a shade more structure and power than the Charmes, both buried in the wine’s opulent fruit. |
