Casal de Ventozela > Vinho Verde > Portugal
Casal de Ventozela is a family business created in 1983 and dedicated to producing Vinho Verde wine. The 27 hectares of vineyards are situated in the sub-region Vale do Ave, in the heart of the Portuguese Vinho Verde region. They are spread over various estates and land plots, across gentle slopes and granitic soils, with altitudes between 100 and 200 meters. The plots are planted with varieties indigenous to the region: Loureiro, Trajadura, Fernão Pires and Arinto (Pedernã), Padeiro de Basto, Espadeiro and Vinhão (for red wine). The climate is influenced by the sea breeze coming from the Atlantic Ocean and the wines produced are pleasantly light and fresh.

Farming/winemaking practices: No chemicals are used. Mechanical process to cut the grass between the rows. Everything is hand-harvested, by a team of about 30 people, usually starting around September 20th. The wines are vegan, no animal derivatives are ever used. The wines are fined with bentonite.

Alvarinho
100% Alvarinho.
The grapes are harvested by hand and put in small boxes of 18 kg. After a pre-fermentation maceration at low temperature, the grapes are pressed. The alcoholic fermentation takes placed at 90% in stainless steel tanks and 10% French oak barrels. Rich, mineral white wine with fruity notes of peaches and citrus, overlaid with hints of blossom. 13% alcohol.

Espadeiro rose
100% Espadeiro.
Casal de Ventozela Rose is an estate bottled wine made exclusively from Espadeiro, a traditional grape variety native to the Vinho Verde Region. Always the last one to be harvested (usually the first week of November), it has a tough skin and needs specific and time-intensive pruning to ripen. Combined with the fact that it takes 6 years to choose the right clone for Espadeiro, this is an expensive grape to grow.
The grapes are fermented after total de-stemming followed by a skin maceration at controlled temperatures between 14ºC and 16ºC. After fermentation, the wine ages in a stainless steel tank on the fine lees, which enriches the flavors and creates more complexity. A little CO2 is added at bottling.
This wine has a clean, brilliant, rose color. Very fresh and fruity with hints of raspberries and wild strawberries. Well balanced between the vibrant fruit and mineral notes with a persistent finish. The wine shows its best when enjoyed with a range of light dishes or as an aperitif. 12% Alcohol. Around 12 gr of RS.

Tinto
100% Vinhao, a traditional grape variety native to the Vinho Verde Region. The dense red color is achieved by the grape having both dark red skin and red flesh.
A young, fruity wine with an attractive nose of plum and strawberry. A little carbonation in the mouth, with smooth supple fruits, brisk acidity and balanced tannins. 12% Alcohol. A little CO2 is added at bottling.
