Nigori (unfiltered) |
Nigori sake (its name roughly translates to "cloudy" because of its appearance) is unfiltered. It ranges from slightly cloudy to milky white. Most of the nigoris imported into the States tend to be on the sweeter side, with a milky nose filled with cinnamon and tangerine essences. Not the Hitorimusume, which is a must-try for nigori fans looking for a drier style. The first sip is almost like coconut milk straight from the coconut, with an Asian pear finish. It pairs well with vegetables (especially asparagus) and also makes a nice and refreshing aperitif. Alcohol: 14.5% SMV:+10 Acidity:1.4
